Federal Research Public Access Act

(21 July 2009)   IP Justice and other public interest organizations signed a letter  to U.S. Senators Lieberman and Cornyn to thank them for sponsoring Senate Bill 1373, which would improve access to publicly funded research.

Among other things, the 2009 Federal Research Public Access Act (S. 1373) would require government funded research papers to be made available in publicly accessible Internet archives within 6 months of publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Other signatories to the letter spear-headed by Knowledge Ecology International (KEI) include the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), OXFAM America, Essential Action, and Universities Allied for Essential Medicines (UAEM).

These groups and others are part of a broad coalition who have expressed support for the Public Access Act (see coalition at http://www.taxpayeraccess.org/member.html).
